Pretoria, one of South Africa's three capitals, is probably one of the most beautiful cities in the country, thanks to the Jacarandas and its laid back, multicultural attitude. These stunning purple flowering trees line the streets and shade the parks. Pretoria is the national and executive administration capital and most government and commerce still operate out of the city centre. The city is home to the University of Pretoria (UP), UNISA, Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), Vista University and the Steve Biko Academic Hospital making it one of the leading academic cities in the country.

Recognised as the second biggest foreign embassy host, after Washington D.C., Pretoria is a great place to live. Apart from the brilliant climate, high quality of life, great education and research facilities, the low cost of living is a distinct advantage. In June 2014, it was voted as the best place in Gauteng in which to live. Although the cost of living in Pretoria is slightly higher than in Cape Town, rents are approximately 50% cheaper. Pretoria has a long term plan free Wi-Fi to all government educational institutions by 2016. So far phase one has been rolled out.

Steeped in history, Pretoria is packed with museums, military institutions and cultural experiences. While the Afrikaans culture is predominant, the city bustles with a variety of ethnic groups. Places of interest nearby include the National Zoological Gardens, The Voortrekker Monument, Union Buildings designed by Herbert Baker, the National Botanical Garden, the Wonderboom Nature Reserve which is home to a 1000 year old fig tree and Loftus Versveld Stadium – home to the cultural phenomenon that is the Blue Bulls Rugby team as well as the Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club.

Public transport includes the Gautrain and the Bus Rapid Transit system. It runs from 6am to 8pm, along dedicated bus lanes, has 340 buses - some powered by gas, 62 stations from Mabopane through Pretoria's central business district, past Menlyn and then on to Mamelodi. The system consists of about 340 buses, some of which is powered by gas.

Here's a list of good suburbs to live in with good schools and first class shopping malls listed as per their proximity to the malls.
Hatfield Plaza: The University of Pretoria is in Hatfield.
Arcadia Centre: Sunnyside, Arcadia and towards City Centre. A great place for young professionals. There are good public transport links and four of the best schools in Pretoria are all in this area: Afrikaans Hoër Seunskool, Pretoria Boys High, Pretoria High School for Girls, Afrikaans Hoër Meisieskool.
The more affluent & sought after suburbs are east of Pretoria:
The Old East

East
Atterbury Boulevard, Atterbury Value Mart, Boardwalk Lakeside, Equestria, Faerie Glen Hypermarket, Glenfair Boulevard, Glen Village, Waterglen Shopping Centre: Waterkloof Ridge, Waterkloof Heights, Faerie Glen, Garsfontein, Menlyn, Lynnwood Glen and Equestria
